Help Topic 1 - Conducting Directory searches

The Resources section of the website contains a category called Directory pages. In this, when you arrive at the landing page, there are currently 49,626 graphics representing nearly 100,000 pages of Directory information. These pages cover the period 1784 to 1974.

As of 21 December 2012, we will have fully indexed (tagged) all of the pages, which makes them fully searchable by street name. To conduct a search, go to Directory pages landing page and simply enter a street name in the centrally located search box, ensuring that the street name is constrained by quote marks, e.g. "West Street".

The results of a search are displayed as links in chronological order. Click on a Directory link to view the occupation data for your house/street. Use the back button in your browser to return to the full results list and explore the Directories sequentially, year-by-year.

Please note that to conduct a full search of the available data you need to do this from the Directory pages landing page and not when you are looking at a filtered sub-set of the Directory data.
